HOCKEY TRIP
My Dad and I took a little trip up to Eastern Canada these last few days to watch some hockey. The Ducks were in the midst of a road trip and we caought up with them in Toronto and Montreal. Temps got down to -11°F. It was by far the coldest weather that we had ever experienced. The highlights of the trip for me were ice skating on a river and the game in Montreal. There were plenty of other good times too and plenty of pictures as evidence. This is one I took at the Hockey Hall Of Fame in Toronto.

IOWA

I’m willing to bet that very few (if any) of the small number of people who follow what I am doing on this here little blog were anywhere near where I spent my weekend. My family and I (minus a couple of brothers-in-law and my wonderful older sister) scurried over to Iowa to celebrate my Grandpa’s birthday with him, my uncles, and my great aunt. Besides the joy of hanging out with family that I hadn’t seen in way too long, we were also blessed with snow. I haven’t spent much of my life in colder locals so it was one of the very few times that I have seen it snow. It snowed about 5 inches and the flakes were pretty big. That night my sister and I watched the snow through our motel room window like little kids.

A few highlights of the trip were:

My Grandpa’s beard

The snow (obviously)

My Uncle’s cooking

A peanut butter burger (As the menu said “Don’t knock it ‘till you try it”)

My Uncles’ farm and all the amazing things they build and restore

Jessica’s classic “barrels of hay, I mean boxes of hay”

Quaint old downtowns

Dorking out with my sister while we took iPhone photos on the ride from Omaha to Spencer

The Lake Okobogi boardwalk where my Grandpa and Grandma met

Eating like we were from the Midwest

Windmills

Seeing my Great Aunt’s house where my Mom spent most of her childhood summers

Seeing $24,000 worth of corn

Uncle Paul on his unicycle

Spending time with family

UPPERS
Last week me and my buddy Bill headed over to Uppers for a lunchtime surf. It was pretty small and crowed but there were a few nice ones that slipped through to me. I snapped this one on our way back to the trail.
